Eyal Agivayev’s “Evidence” Gives a Glimpse Into a Secret Story

Born to Azerbaijan parents that immigrated to Israel in the late 70s, artist Eyal Agivayev combines aesthetics of his ethnic heritage with his personal identity. His series of photographs are riddled with clues alluding to his personal biography.  While Agivayev’s pieces seem like everyday images, they are objects that are secretly interrupted and transplanted. The images are strong and dense, possess cinematic allure, and tell a riveting narrative.

Agivayev is more than a collector of fragments -- his subjects are embedded with coded symbols and meanings of body, identity, and most importantly share a hidden story.

His works can be defined as: sensitive, poetic, and aesthetically pleasing. But they are also touching, full of passion, pain, and death -- haunted by the absent presence.
